Listening to yourself-holistic practices Part 1

I recently had a physical. After many years of being a wife and mother catering to everyone's needs it was time to put myself first.I did some research and found an M.D. in my network.I went for the appointment and had my blood etc. taken for testing. Thankfully everything was within normal range except for my.blood pressure. I had a few issues with this information.

First of all,I intentionally did not use the ladies room figuring I would have to leave a sample so I was sitting there for about 20 minutes praying I wouldn't pee myself. (You older ladies out there who have had kids understand what I mean).Holding onto that in itself was a chore. Secondly I had already had my pressure taken 3 times by the nurse who could not find my pulse. Mind you , I really am a living ,breathing person so it stands to reason I would have one! Every time she would pump that cuff up on my plump arm it felt like my skin getting caught in a zipper. Now I am not a baby when it comes to pain.I had both my children naturally for God's sake so I can take "discomfort". She finally stated she would have the doctor take it.

I sat there for another 10 minutes or so waiting for the doctor. All the while I was anticipating getting my skin pinched once more as that cuff got inflated. So I sat there for a 4th time as the cuff got pumped and pumped and pumped until I saw stars.I actually said at this point."Excuse me but you are really hurting me." Response was, "I'm sorry but I can't seem to find your pulse". This was followed up by try number 5.By this time I was so annoyed that I was ready to rip the cuff off and run but I talked myself into toughing it out.

By the time my bp was actually detected it was through the roof. Apparently my pulse is not in the same place everyone else's is.I was then told,"I'm surprised you haven't had a stroke?"I looked at the doc with a confused look on my face and said,"That's odd .I never really had a problem with my bp." I never experience headaches, red face, nose bleeds etc. I know high blood pressure is the silent killer but in this case it is the non existent killer.Anyway I was given a script for medicine on the spot and was told to make a follow up appt. in 2 weeks.

More to follow in Part 2 !
