Celebrating Pandit Ravi Shankar
When you go onto Google today you will notice a small sitar in the title. This sitar is a nod to Ravi Shankar. Ravi Shankar would have celebrated his 96th birthday today. Sadly he passed about 4 years ago in California.
The reason why I am blogging about this gifted musician is because there is something so spiritual about the sound of the sitar. As Ravi said," The music I have learned and want to give is like worshipping God. It's absolutely like a prayer." Ravi played his music with a true connection to the "Divine One" and it resonated with many. Ravi is also the reason that Indian Sitar music was able to be recognized abroad.
Yes Pandit Ravi Shankar is the man who taught George Harrison to play this wonderful instrument. So the next time you listen to the Beatles,"Norwegian Wood "or perhaps one of my favorites" Within You Without You" you can credit that to Ravi's work with George. I do picture them floating on a cloud somewhere making beautiful music together! Namaste !
